But first those are most likely (only because I don't know the whole stories) bad therapists. I have heard stories of therapists who tell their clients that they don't believe certain things happen. If you are over 18 and no one has legal guardianship over you, your therapist can't breach confidentiality without your permission or unless they have reason to believe there is imminent danger to yourself or others. About as common as depression and anxietyĪs far as forcing things, at least if you are in the USA, your therapist can't force you see a gyno. Sexual abuse and rape are (I really hate to use this word but I honestly don't know any other way to phrase it) common traumas for people to bring to therapy. They should have some idea of the level of emotion and type of emotion YOU need. Your therapist should react in a way that suits your needs. Honestly? Your therapist has probably suspected it for a while. ![]() So if someone could share how therapists react to a client telling them about sexual abuse/rape I'd be really grateful. I think what scares me the most about telling her is that I have no idea how she would react. ![]() I guess the fear that she won't believe me is mostly irrational? I don't even know hοw I would want her to react. I'm scared she might tell the police or even worse my mother (I'm off age, but technically my therapist is a children's/teenager's therapist) or that she will force me to see a gynecologist. And I think I want her to know? Or I guess I just feel overwhelmed by not being able to tell anyone.īut I'm scared of her reaction. I somehow hope she does because I don't know how I could bring it up by myself. I guess today she'll suggest to talk about it. But she's not dumb so of course she knows something is up. Last week in therapy I hinted (sort of accidentally but also a bit intentional) that something happened but didn't have the guts to say what it was. There is something that happened in my past, and it affects me more than it probably should. I've been in therapy for roughly six months for depression.
